(A.A.P. 11/07/2001; Gympie Times p.7. Thursday July 12 2001)

KATHMANDU: A four-year-old girl was chosen yesterday to be Nepal's new Hindu living virgin goddess, her father said. Known as the Kumari of Kathmandu, the goddess is seen as the patron deity of the ancient Himalayan kingdom. The Nepalese believe the Kumari should never smile nor laugh during her reign, as if she did, it would mean great misfortune for the country.
