Not flush, so council plans dunny demolition
ABC Online 15/4/2002
Cemeteries and public toilets in the Bega Valley Shire, in south-eastern New South Wales,
are some of the likely casualties of the council's need to tighten its belt.
The council's finance and works committee says there is not enough money in general funds
to cover all the council is committed to.
A hike in rates and waste management fees is on the cards, plus the introduction of a levy
to cover environmental work such as stormwater construction.
Council staff are considering demolishing some public toilets in the shire and keeping
others locked for part of the year while upkeep of local cemeteries could be reduced in a
bid to cut costs.
